Determinants of Sustainable Use of Farmlands in Amhara Region, Ethiopia

This study analyses determinants of sustainable use farmlands in Debre Mawi and Densa Bahta rural kebeles Amhara region northwestern Ethiopia. Within the framework qualitative research methodology, case approach adopted study. The required primary data were gathered through focus group discussions in-depth interviews. A generic analytical that combines livelihood (SLF) farming system model was used this to understand synergy multiple variables mediate land management practice among respondents selected from kebeles. reveals relative importance productive asset endowments, self-efficacy risk perception on region. Interviewees follow unsustainable practices endowed with relatively lower pieces farmland disadvantaged possession other assets. They also demonstrated a low level risk-averse attitude adopting conservation technologies, as they possessed smaller sizes compared village regional average. holdings land-poor farmers opportunities for off-farm activities should thus be enhanced halt ongoing degradation
